Dr Phariss did not care and did not assess my back again when I told him my pain was worse than when I had arrived. The nurses were not supportive and came in and aggressively tried to remove the IV from my arm and told me that I was discharged and needed to leave. I refused and asked for the house supervisor. I had been given Toradol IV and Valium 5 mg with absolutely no relief in my pain level. My prescriptions were for Valium and phenerghan upon discharge. The house supervisor angrily came in and told me to stop crying. I told her my pain was an 8/10 and she said she didn’t believe me. I tried to explain to her my other conditions-Fibromyalgia , RA make me feel pain differently than most people. She just laughed at me. I asked her to just touch my back and she could feel how tight my muscles were and she refused. I am a RN myself and always felt it was my position to advocate for my patients. I was in a vulnerable position and so upset that I couldn’t advocate for myself. I was really let down by the healthcare system and Walls ER staff. I finally just left in a wheelchair because I could hardly move and was unable to walk.
Awesome emergency staff very nice caring people I spent a good part of my day with them. Dr Lucus was great I wish I could remember the rest of their names! Great job!!
Dr. Phariss did not touch my back once during my visit and neither did any of the nurses. After my CT results came back, Dr Phariss came in and said, “No broken bones and no opioids for you. You should feel better in 2-3 days.” I have Fibromyalgia and the car accident had caused a flare. My pain was severe.
Do not go to this ER ever!!
Doctors take an oath to do no harm. This doctor and the nurses in the ER that day were negligent in their treatment of my back pain and I suffered unnecessarily due to their unethical and grossly negligent behavior. This is not acceptable!!
Emergency staff always excellent. Been there total 5 times. Always great.
The hospital itself is descent; the nursing staff friendly, the doctors good, but the management put profit over people.
The treatment I received in that ER was inhumane.
I was seen in the ER by Robert Phariss, DO. I had been in a car accident and injured my back. While I was there, the pain spread throughput my entire back and neck area and became increasingly worse. My muscles became so tight that I could hardly turn my neck and couldn’t move my back at all.
Went to the emergency room. Saw Dr. Dale Lucas. I have been getting calls that I owe him because he was the doctor I saw in the emergency room at out of network cost even though the hospital is covered in network. Never have I had a bill from the ER doctor saying I owe him on top of what I paid the hospital because he is out of my network. Huh? Are you kidding me? Boo
I was traumatized emotionally as well as physically due to their behavior.
I also received a separate bill for his ER services which I found to be unusual because he is a THR employee.
I had been to this ER multiple times over the past year due to some serious health issues. I was even inpatient twice. They had all of my records and every urine drug screen was always negative. Still, I was released home in severe pain. I’m still having severe upper back pain to this day. Dr Phariss ‘s notation that I’d recover in 2-3 days was ridiculous! A lot of people may not develop symptoms for several days after an accident and that’s a commonly known fact. His statement about the 2-3 day recovery was recently used to help deny my long-term disability claim.
I know that there is an opioid crisis right now in the US. That doesn’t mean that patients with real pain should be denied adequate pain management. I feel like I was treated as a drug seeker. Guilty until proven innocent??How much would a weeks worth of pain medication contribute to the opioid crisis and how likely am I to become an addict with short term opioid use? Makes no sense whatsoever.
When I saw my Rheumatologist a couple weeks later she said she wasn’t going to check for tender points on my back because she could tell by looking at me that I was in a lot of pain and she didn’t want to make it worse. My muscles were still frozen from neck down to my lower back. Why couldn’t an ER doctor or nurse see that?
I had even asked the ambulance driver to take me to another ER at the time of the accident because I had previously received poor care at Walls but they took me there because it was closest. Next time, I will insist to be taken elsewhere!
